So, you’re hot stuff because you did a Habitat for Humanity session some weekend back in ‘96 with your sorority? Try stitching together an entire country with hammocks! The Canada based Action Hero Network, through one of their current projects called Stitch Uganda Together, is teaching people from the village of Bunabumali how to make and sell hammocks to benefit their community.

Among other causes, the Action Hero Network via Stitch Uganda Together has devoted a large amount time, energy and money to supporting the Ugandan people and its homeless population. Between donating sewing machines, conducting hammock making workshops, giving free hammocks to the Ugandan homeless, creating public play spaces for children and classroom sessions on how to leverage creativity into actual currency that will come back and benefit the community, Stitch Uganda Together has done more in their short time than naysayers could have predicted. The small village of Bunabumali, Uganda couldn’t be happier and prouder.

Their model is simple: Make some great hammocks and sell them via Action Hero Network to people in the 1st world countries while simultaneously bringing revenue to the village. That’s easy enough to understand. This the sort of simplicity that fuels the Action Hero Network and it’s representatives.

The concept behind the Action Hero Network is that all of us regular folk can become and are quite possibly housing a super hero inside of us. All it takes is passion to help others and applying action to it. It doesn’t require creating a non-profit, getting offices, spending thousands on a hot website or making some sassy business cards. All it requires is that one applies action to their hearts and minds.

In the video below you’ll see Norman the Nakhokho family, which includes eight of their own children, 12 additional adopted kids. The Nakhokho family has created the Good Samaritan Orphan & Needy School. Take a look:

The key person behind the Action Hero Network is a guy called Max. He’s an adventurer that is destined to embody one of Ghandi’s many quotes: Be the change you want to see in the world. We first heard about Max during the beginnings of this foray into this life of travel, education and adventure. He was traveling from Vancouver, Canada down to the central cost of Mexico and documenting it via online journal. This was revolutionary at the time because common blog and content management solutions (CMS) didn’t exist. SoloMAX is what he called this online journal and journey. Apparently a large number of people have been following his progress and activities over the years. You can add The Saiko to that list now. We’re intrigued by this guy and what he and his team are doing.
